Accident claims two in Narok East

A  driver and his turn boy were burnt beyond recognition after their petrol tanker rammed a truck and caught fire at Ntulele along Maai Mahiu – Narok road  on Thursday morning.

Confirming the accident, the Narok East Sub County Police Commander (SCPC), Benjamin Mwanzia said the driver of the petrol tanker hit the rear of a canter lorry which was ahead of him and the impact forced the tanker to roll and land on the side of the road where it burst in flames.

The  canter  was also thrown on the other side of the road on impact. The driver and his turn boy who were trapped in the tanker were burnt beyond recognition.

Mwanzia  said the occupants of the canter escaped unhurt. The two vehicles were heading towards Narok when the accident occurred at 2:30am today.

Fire  fighters from Narok County government however, managed to put off the fire but it was too late to save the lives of the driver and his turn boy.

The  charred remains of the driver and turn boy are lying at the Narok Referral Hospital mortuary pending further investigations into the accident and identification of the deceased persons as the identification documents they had might have had were burnt in the inferno.

Mwanzia  appealed to anyone with information to come out and help identify the bodies. The two vehicles were towed to Ntulele police station for inspection.

“Any company that’s missing their driver and turn-boy to come forward and help with identification of these two bodies,” said Mwanzia.
