Abandoned month-old baby rescued in Rarieda sub-county

A one-month-old baby boy was today rescued from a bush at Gwena South village in Rarieda sub-county, where he is suspected to have been abandoned by an unknown person.

The baby, who was wrapped in a shawl and then put inside a carton, was found by a herdsman who was grazing his animals in the area at around 10 am.

According to the Assistant Chief of Rachar sub-location, Mr. Venance Koga, the herdsman raised an alarm before members of the public came and rescued the infant from the mid-morning scorching sun.

The baby was taken to Madiany sub-county hospital for medical attention as reports were made to both the police and Children’s Services department for further action.

While confirming the incident, Mr. Koga told KNA that the infant was treated and handed over to be in the custody of a woman, Good Samaritan, who picked him up from the scene to the hospital.

He took the opportunity to caution members of the public and, more specifically, young women against the habit of giving birth to children and then dumping them.

The Assistant Chief stated that they are yet to establish the person who may have dumped the baby in the bush, noting that investigations have already been launched into the matter.
