A boyfriend of the slain Murang’a Prison wardress was on Thursday arraigned before a Murang’a Court on murder charges.
The prosecution applied before the court to detain Peterson Mwaura Njiru in custody for two weeks so as to allow
prosecution complete investigations before he stands trial.
The Murang’a Criminal Investigations Officer, Abdullahi Ali made the application before Resident Magistrate (RM), Sheila Nyaga to hold the suspect at Murang’a police station for 14 days.
Ali told the court that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday; the day the body of Pauline Wangari was found lying in her house.
The officer said from the records they possess, the suspect has been a frequent visitor to the house of the wardress who until her death was attached to Murang’a GK Prison.
“The suspect is a person of interest having been a boyfriend to Pauline Wangari, or he could have been involved or assist in the investigations,” said Ali in his application.
The RM allowed the police to detain Njiru for two weeks and scheduled the case to be mentioned on May 30.
Nyaga said during the given period, the prisons should organise for the suspect to be taken for psychiatric
examination to determine whether he can stand murder trial.
The Body of Wangari, aged 24 years, was found by her colleagues lying on her bed after she went missing for three days.
The body had several stabs wounds on the back, shoulders and stomach. The knife suspected to have been used was found placed on the body.
The Murang’a Police County Commander told KNA that they were pursuing more suspects.
