A man who was crossing the overflowing River Tana drowned after his Canoe overturned on Wednesday at about 6.00pm at Itsowe village in Tana Delta Sub County.
Confirming the incident to the press today, Tana Delta Sub County Deputy Police Commander (SCDPC), Titus Munyoki said, the 36 year old man by the name, Abaye Arasto Kore was crossing the swollen river in a Canoe from his Shamba to Home when the incident occurred.
Munyoki said, the deceased ’s body was recovered when the rescue team moved into the river quickly to save his life but unfortunately he was found dead.
The SCDPC said, the body has been taken to Malindi Sub County hospital mortuary.
He called on the area residents to avoid crossing on the overflowing river to stop more deaths saying, farming activities across river Tana should be stopped currently until the water subsides.
