A 40-year-old man has been arraigned before a Kapenguria court for allegedly defiling a six years old girl.
Mr. William Mongis appeared before Principal Magistrate, Margaret Nanjala, and denied the charge.
The prosecution charged Mongis with defilement contrary to section 11(1) of the Sexual Offenses Act No. 3 of 2006.
The accused was charged that on May 9, 2021, at Kaibos village in Kaibos location within West Pokot County, he intentionally and unlawfully defiled a minor aged six years (name withheld).
The prosecution documents before court indicate, Mongis did indecent act to a minor contrary to the Sexual Offences Act.
The defilement case was first reported to Kaibos Police Post where the accused person was arrested and taken to Kapenguria Police Station before being arraigned in court.
The alleged defilement occurred on May 9, 2021, and was discovered when the mother of the child noticed her child not to be walking comfortably, the mother interrogated the child where the child mentioned, William Mongis, to have defiled her.
The child is reported to have been taken for a medical check-up and treated at Kaibos Dispensary.
The Court ruled the accused person to be released on a bond of Sh.50, 000 with a surety of a similar amount pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The case will be mention on June 14, 2021, for further Court orders.
