CS Owalo launches free government WiFi in Maua town

Information, Communication and The Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Mr. Eliud Owalo has launched Free Governmental Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) in Maua Town of Meru County that shall be active 24 hours and promised to install Computer Laboratory in every ward.

Speaking at Maua town during the launch on Wednesday, Owalo said that they have been tasked by President William Ruto to install Wi-Fi in all markets places.

He maintained that the Kenya Kwanza government is committed to enhancing skills among the youths through improving internet connectivity which will help them access the digital job market.

Owalo said the government agenda to ensure internet connectivity in technical institutions and wards will increase job opportunities among the increasing number of unemployed youths.

The CS who was flanked by the agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi among other leaders also launched a Jitume Centre, a digital laboratory at Igembe Boys High School where he assured that they are committed to digitizing the country by internet connectivity.

“I have been working tirelessly to ensure that Wi-Fi is installed in Markets. The project is set to make members of the public connected to the internet. This will help them engage in trade online, check how other parts of the world are faring, advertise and market their goods and services online using the free Wi-Fi,” he said.

He urged the youths to take advantage of the Wi-Fi and engage in online businesses with other parts of the world and earn a living for themselves, adding that Wi-Fi will have no password making it accessible to everyone.
