The government has disbursed bursaries amounting to Sh 4.089 million to benefit 227 needy students in six constituencies of Makueni County under the Presidential Bursaries programme in the first half of the 2022–2023 financial year.
The County Ag. Children’s Coordinator, Thomas Mulwa, said the programme targets Orphans and Vulnerable children and is aimed at helping the beneficiaries acquire secondary education in the area.
Speaking to KNA Tuesday, Mulwa said the beneficiary students from each constituency include Kibwezi East (28), Kibwezi West (45), Mbooni (25), Kaiti (38), Kilome (46) and Makueni (45).
“Each constituency has received Sh 681,586 and money has only been disbursed to schools to cater for children who are either total or partial orphans studying in public secondary schools, who received between Sh15,000 and 30,000 to cater for fees,” said Mulwa.
