A well-wisher has embarked on supporting needy people, especially widows, by constructing houses for them.
Fredrick Munuku said that the initiative, dubbed Houses of Hope, targets 600 people from five wards in Busia Sub County by the year 2027.
“We have established more than 38 children’s homes across East Africa,” he said, adding that they have come up with a strategy of moving children from charitable children’s institutions to communities.
Munuku explained that if the organization supports one widow, she can stay with two or three orphans.
“We are talking to the respective area chiefs and village elders to identify the vulnerable widows before we support them,” he said.
He further said that they had received a list of 20 people from Mayenje ward and 10 from Busibwabo, adding that they are likely to reach 120.
The well-wisher has also established a rehabilitation centre to cater for those affected by drug and substance abuse.
Pauline Nyongesa and Benta Osiako, the beneficiaries of the project, thanked the well-wisher for the initiative, adding that it has provided them with better shelter.
Local residents led by Denis Salwe and Kevin Ochwadi hailed the well-wisher, urging the local leaders to emulate him.
