Kericho County flagged off a team of 16 athletes to represent the County in the Athletics Kenya National Championships at Nyayo National Stadium slated for 22ndto 24th June 2023.
The 16-member team lead by Coach Sammy Bii and Senior Athletics Kenya officials left Kericho in high spirits promising a harvest of medals and international representation for the County after emerging victorious in the championships.
Speaking during the official flag off at the County government offices, the Kericho County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Wesley Bor urged the team to passionately showcase their athletic talents by performing their best at the National arena.
The ICT, Sports and Youth Affairs County Executive Committee Member (CECM), Daniel Rop expressed his confidence that the team would emerge victorious in the various sporting activities of the national tournament having trained rigorously and having sailed through the County and regional levels.
“It is an exciting development for sports enthusiasts in Kericho as we flag off this able team to represent us in the national championships and we wish them the very best,” said Rop.
According to Athletics Kenya, athletes from African countries including South Africa, Seychelles, Uganda, South Sudan and Tanzania will also participate in the three-day Athletics Kenya (AK) National championships at Nyayo National stadium ahead of the national trials for the World Athletics Championships on July 7thand 8th in Nairobi.
