Meru County has received a boost in the fight against fire disasters after England based Bedford shire group donated to it a fire engine.
The engine has a capacity of carrying 180,000 litres of water in the event of a fire outbreak in the region.
The Bedfordshire Group team leader, Josh Mathews said they have been working with the Meru County for the past eight years and have confidence that the equipment will help in the fight against fire tragedies.
“We have had a continuous training with the fire brigade personnel that lasted for two weeks on how to use the engine. We appreciate the partnership we have had with the Meru county,” said Mathews.
Apart from assisting during fire accidents, the fire engine that will be stationed at Timau area will also respond in the event of road accidents.
While receiving the fire engine, Meru Chief of Staff, Gideon Kimathi said the county wishes to establish fire stations in all the nine sub counties.
Kimathi said Meru County is one of the regions with the most highly skilled firefighters and l the county government will continue investing more in disaster
management.
