Sh952 Million allocated for Kajiado County

Kajiado County is set to get Sh. 952 Million from Equalization Fund to spur development in identified marginalized areas in the county.

While addressing the media in Loitoktok Sub County Commissioner Koitamet Ole Kina of Commission of Revenue Allocation said the allocation will be funding projects such as water, electricity, schools, and roads among others.

Ole Kina said the CRA is touring Kajiado County to identify marginalized areas to be earmarked for funding as well as confirming the current situation in the county.

The commissioner said the exercise which is being conducted across the country is aimed at bringing equity to marginalized areas which were sidelined by previous governments.

He said this is entrenched in the new constitution of 2010 targeting to lift the marginalized areas to enjoy development and services like other developed areas.

The commissioner said all Kenyans need are part of the country since there is a caring government though some areas may take time to catch up.

Ole Kina pointed out local sub-location committees all the way to the county committee will oversee the projects which will benefit with the funds.

The committees at sub county level through involvement of the local community will identify and prioritize projects to be funded.

The commissioner noted that in Kajiado County only 66.4% of 316179 households were accessing safe drinking water by 2019 while only 67.9% were connected with electricity within the same period.

He further pointed out that in 2019 the paved road network stood at 33.2% adding that areas identified as marginalized in the county had risen from 64 to 76 sub locations for possible funding.

The team was in Kajiado Central and tomorrow will be proceeding to Kajiado West.
