Country government clarifies the cost of Foot Bridge

The  Bomet County government has refuted claims appearing in a section of the media that construction of Kirwa foot bridge cost  the tax payers Sh.6.4 million instead of the initial cost of Sh.2.4 million.

In  a  press statement the County Director of Roads, Victor  Ng’etich  said that a Nairobi based Construction Company  Geomet limited won the tender in August 2018 and had commenced work.

Ng’etich said that the foot bridge measuring 18 metres long and 1.5 metres wide is still under construction contrary to reports doing rounds that the contractor did a shoddy job and had been paid.

“I want to clarify that the construction is on-going and the wall embankment using the masonry which they are complaining about  will be supported by additional stepping gabions on either side to strengthen it, Ng’etich stated.

He  said that there was no course for alarm as competent officers were supervising the works to ensure safety.

“Please visit our offices to clarify information before publishing since we have an open door policy. The foot bridge
in Chemageri  ward in Sotik constituency will cost Sh.2.4 million and not Sh.6.4 as contained in some newspapers,” he told journalists.

The Roads Director also said the county government had constructed 406 kms of road network in the region in the financial  year 2017/18 and graveled another 320 km during the period.
