All set for Benjamin Ayimba Rugby tournament

It is all system go for the inaugural Benjamin Ayimba Rugby Tournament set for Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The Chairman for Kenya Rugby League Federation (KRLF) Quicks Nyakwaka said preparations were in top gear for the three-day tournament set to kick off tomorrow.

Speaking to the press at the Kenyatta Stadium, Nyakwaka said the event held in honour of the late Benjamin Ayimba and former head coach for the Kenya 7s rugby team would see 22 teams play in the tournament.

“The tournament includes both men’s and women’s categories. We have 16 teams for the men and six teams for the women,” he said.

The KRLF Chairman said adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure safety for both the players and the fans.

“Security is assured for all. We do not expect a repeat of what happened in 2014 during the Masaku 7s and those that are hell bent on causing chaos are not rugby fans,” said Nyakwaka.

The late Ayimba died in 2021 at the Kenyatta National Hospital where he was being treated for cerebral malaria.
