18 million Kenyans have registered for Huduma Namba

Over 18 million Kenyans countrywide have already registered for Huduma Namba, since the exercise began 23 days ago.
ICT Principal Secretary Jerome Ochieng said upon lapsing of the 45 days of the ongoing mass registration, the centres will remain open across the country to allow for continuous registration.
Ochieng commended the smooth progression of the exercise explaining that the Huduma Namba will in the long run eliminate irregularities associated with poor identification and ensure security of individual property and documents.
Speaking at the Telkom Kenya offices at Valley Road Friday, where he led registration of the company employees and their families, the PS emphasised the importance of the registration drive, adding that it will form the foundation of country as an information society and a digital economy.
The PS said using the number as a single source of truth, will make it easy to configure devices to identify people for ease of transactions, thus eliminating irregularities associated with disjointed and unreliable identification system.
Ochieng said Kenya is among the top five African countries which have taken a bold step to implement the National Integrated Identity Management System, a structure he observed will enable the government to efficiently plan for resource allocation and service delivery to citizens.
He encouraged members the public to register in any location and avoid travelling back to their rural homes for registration, noting that their details can be captured wherever they are working, living or even on transit as long as they have their valid documents.
During the function, Ochieng was accompanied by the Telkom Kenya CEO Mugo Kebati and Westlands Sub- County Commissioner Waweru Mungania.
