Mizani Africa Releases Research on Kenya’s Economy

Research released by Mizani Africa, a renowned research and consultancy firm, has shown that a total of 46 percent of Kenyans feel that the country is progressing in the right direction.

The report that was released yesterday indicates that those supporting the government’s achievements have cited the Hustler Fund, government response to insecurity, agriculture, and drought and famine interventions as some of the issues that are geared towards development.

Speaking at a Nairobi hotel during the release of the research, Mizani Africa Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Haron Kiriba said those acknowledging that the government is on the right track have also lauded the government on its efforts in the monetization of arts, youth and talent initiatives and improvement on water security.

Kiriba said that the research also indicates that a total of 34 percent of Kenyans feel that the country is in the wrong direction due to the high cost of living and taxation while 20 percent were undecided.

“The 34 percent are also voicing factors like the high unemployment rates, electricity costs, corruption, high cost of education and inaccessibility to quality health care services,” he said.

The CEO noted that amidst all the decry of foul play over high cost of living and other basic commodities, at least 46 percent are impressed by the work done by the Cabinet Secretaries in the 120 days in their respective offices.

Kiriba said the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was ranked as the best-performing CS.

Some of the development projects that were lauded by respondents in the research include the digitization of government services, launch of Jitume Digital lab at Thika Technical Training Institute, launch of government funded Public WI-FI to support Small Medium Enterprise and the inauguration of the panel selection of the Board of Media Council of Kenya.

Others are the launch of the digital divide movement meant to ensure women have full participation and access to technology crucial for sustainable growth, the Talanta Hela Initiative programme, the solved strike by Kenya Airways Pilots.
