Narok County Peace Ambassador Joshua Ole Kaputa has donated sports uniforms and equipment to the Narok County Para volleyball team.
Kaputa said the initiative is meant to empower the team that has been participating and performing well in international and national Paralympic games to enhance training to eneable them post better results.
“If you are able to reason, then you are not disabled, and if you can do what other people can do, you are not disabled,” he said while meeting the team at the Narok North Youth Empowerment Hall.
The men’s team captain Silas Ledama told KNA that their major challenge is facilitation when transporting players to far off places to do undertake regular training.
“The players come from different parts of the county and during practice, we have to transport them to one central place. We lack facilitation for food, fare and shelter which compromise our performance,” he said.
He called on the county government through the department of Sports and Culture to chip in and help the talented players do their training with ease.
“I am a good example of those who travel long distances for training. I hail from the Kilgoris area, which is over 200 kilometers from Narok town where we meet regularly for practice,” he said.
The women’s team captain Sarah Florence thanked the Narok County peace ambassador for donating the uniform saying it has motivated them to aim higher in pursuing their talent.
Florence, who lives in Nairobi County, said she has volunteered to join the team to train them and nurture their talents.
The Narok Para volleyball team has 30 members who believe if well facilitated, they will emerge the best in the country and also internationally.
