Forum Held to Sensitize Women on Matters of Governance

A youth group dubbed Underit Youth Group funded by USAID has held a sensitization forum to sensitize women and the community on matters of governance.

Speaking during the sensitization forum held in Kapsimotwo ward Tinderit sub county, the group called upon women in Tinderit to hold their leaders accountable on matters of development.

Underit Youth Group Project Officer Francis Ngeny called on the women and the community at large to always be ready to hold their leaders accountable so that they deliver the promises they made to them before election.

The Project Officer used the forum to urge women to embrace technology as Kenya marked International Women’s Day with this year’s theme being Digital Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.

“As we mark the International Women’s Day, I urge women to embrace technology in reporting matters of gender-based violence in order to curb the issues of GBV in this area,” he stated, calling on women not to fear getting in political spaces to vie for leadership.

He called on men to lend a supporting hand to their women at any time they wish to get into political leadership.

The group which operates in Tinderit sub county has so far engaged residents from Tinderit and Nandi hills sub counties in Nandi by holding a sensitization program under Kenya Electoral Conflicts, mitigation and civic/voter Education support (ECCES) program for women and the community as a follow up meeting on the pre-election commitments made by leaders in the area during an election debate that vetted leaders in August 2022 general election.

“We are meeting here today to follow up on the pre-election commitments made by leaders during the August 2022 election debate held here in Tinderet Sub County,” said Jacob Sanga, Underit Project Coordinator.

Speaking during the sensitization forum, Kapsimotwo Member of County Assembly (MCA) Edwin Korir assured the women, youths, the men present as well as the youth group leadership that he will actively play his oversighting, legislation and representation role in the County Assembly of Nandi.

“Today I want to assure you that I have fully offered my oversight role in the County Government of Nandi and in the County Assembly of Nandi, and I vow to you that I will not stop there but I will continue offering my oversight, legislation and representation role so that we hold our leaders accountable,” Korir said.
