The Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy through the Ajira Digital Program (ADP), has partnered with the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRC) to train more than 50 women in Mombasa on digital marketing, in commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day.
Similar events are taking place at Red Cross offices in Parklands Nairobi, Hola, Tana River, and Meru North at the Imenti CDF building.
The training is in line with this year’s theme “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality,”
International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated on the 8th of March every year, as a focal point in the Women’s Right Movement, to honor the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements and their contribution.
The ADP is a free government initiative under the Ministry of ICT, aimed at empowering the young generation in accessing digital job markets, thus positioning Kenya as a labor destination for many international organizations.
The Coast Regional Coordinator for the ADP, Janet Muchoge, told KNA that they will bring more women onboard to be trained on digital skills, in order to create gender balance in the online space.
For the two days training program, Machoge stated that they are committed to creating more awareness, so as to get a good number of women impacted with the skills just like the men.\
She revealed that the only requirement for one to get enrolled, is an Identification Card and a digital device such as a smartphone, laptop, or desktop and reliable internet.
“The main aim of this program is to get a million people employing themselves in these digital platforms, so as to reduce the number of unemployment in the country,” said Muchoge.
ADP Mombasa Center Manager, Linda Geno, said that the turn-up of this training and the response to the adverts was below their expectation.
She noted that they will devise better marketing and advertising strategies for future events.
Eunice Karisa, a trainee noted that the program was resourceful and that their businesses will continue to thrive given that they have gained more skills on creating a business profile online, sharing contacts and the location of their respective businesses.
Faith Mwende, Proprietor of Tamu Feeds Organic, thanked the Government for the constructive training, stating that it’s a big plus to the women since, it’s a mode of empowering their businesses
“At the moment, I am able to create a website for a business in a very short duration, something that I have never believed it may be that easy. I am advocating for more time to be created, so that many people can be impacted with the same knowledge,” she said.
