Governor Gives MCAs Sh 20 million For Development

Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has allocated Sh20 million to every ward towards development in this financial year.

This translates to Sh1.2 billion for all the 60 wards in the region in a bid to spur development in the grassroots.

Speaking Tuesday in Kholera ward, Matungu Sub County while distributing subsidized fertilizer and climate resilient maize seeds, Barasa said the funds would help in providing much needed services to the people.

He said Kakamega County with a fully-fledged independent revenue collection agency would support the revenue pool and management of county undertakings.

“We have an independent agency which helps us collect and manage our revenue for development and we need more resources to provide effective services to our people,” he said.

He said the way devolution has been structured ensures every county benefits from the national cake through efforts made by the county chiefs.

He pledged to ensure his six-point transformative agenda for Kakamega is delivered with clear focus on health, hygiene and sanitation.

He said there is already a plan to improve access to health services and upgrade most health facilities to level four and prioritize public health care investment to control disease outbreak.

He urged leaders in the region to work together to fully benefit from devolution and have the same advantage trickle down to the electorates.
