Mombasa Elders Castigate Supreme Court Judges for The Ruling On LGBTQ

The Executive Committee of the Mombasa County Council of Elders has termed the Supreme Court of Kenya verdict on the LGBTQ community petition to form associations as disgusting and repugnant as it is in contradiction to African cultural beliefs and established religious faiths.

The elders in their statement demanded that the ruling be repealed with immediate effect and action taken against the ‘errant judges who have brought shame to our beloved country’.

“This pronouncement is a danger to the existence of the social structures and it is extremely dangerous to the stability of the family which is the basic unit. We ask the public to be on high alert in exposing the evil people who have brought shame to our beloved country,’’ said Dr. Edwin Mwinga during a press briefing in Mombasa.

The Mombasa elders thanked President Dr. William Ruto for taking a firm stand against the Supreme Court verdict.

Mombasa clerics on Wednesday said they will file a petition in the East African Court of Justice for a review of the decision of the apex court in Kenya allowing the LGBTQI community to form associations.

Sheikh Badru Khamisi Secretary-General of Kenya Assembly of Ulamaa Scholars and Imams said that if no action is taken, they will move to the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) for redress.

“We oppose the decision of the Supreme Court and we will go to the EACJ to show that the decision is against the constitution of Kenya,” Sheikh Khamisi said.
