Some private schools in Kericho County are secretly undertaking holiday tuition for students in their premises.
Subsequently, the County Director of Education Zachary Mutwiri has warned that schools found to be flouting government directive on a total ban on holiday tuition for secondary and primary levels risk closure.
Mutwiri said tough action, including possible de-registration, will be taken against the management and owners of the concerned institutions once they are identified.
“I received reports that some private schools were doing holiday tuition and we have launched investigations to ascertain the truth,” he said.
The ministry of education has in the last three years issued a total ban on holiday tuition arguing that it was infringing on the students rights to rest and play while away from serious learning in schools, as per the education calendar.
The tough rules, dubbed Matiang’i rules were brought about under the reign of the current Interior Cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i when he served at the education docket.
