Chiefs in Nandi County have been challenged to use social media platforms to share information while seeking solutions to some of the challenges in their locations.
Nandi County Commissioner Herman Shambi while speaking in Kabsabet town. He said social media platforms for instance WhatsApp platform can be a very vital tool in highlighting matters of education, social issues and government directives with participants suggesting ways on how they can be collectively handled.
Commissioner Shambi noted that WhatsApp platform is a unifying network which brings together location members working in various parts of the country and even those in foreign countries.
“Through WhatsApp platforms, chiefs can bring together location members in various parts of the country including those outside the country in order to seek solutions to some of their challenges,” he said.
Shambi said that communities which have embraced technology have done a lot in bringing locational think tanks by brainstorming some of the challenges facing them while seeking solutions to those touching issues.
He pointed out that there was no turning back in ever changing digital world and that communities should discover quickly how social media can bring positive change in their localities.
Shambi however asked parents to ensure their children are controlled while using technology platforms so that they don’t fall victims of cyber-attacks and other forms of online abuse.
“If used well even our children will be much more informed than before as we try to seek some of the solutions to our daily challenges,” Commissioner Shambi added.
Shambi was addressing over 50 Victims Protection stakeholders at African Inland Church Training College Hall in Kapsabet town.
The Victims Protection Stakeholders sensitization meeting for Nandi County was organized by Victims Protection Board under the office of the Attorney General’s Department of Justice.
Kennedy Mutiso Senior State Counsel Office of the Attorney General who read the speech on behalf of the Solicitor General said that victims most of the time were ignorant of their rights and it was the duty of Victims Protection Board to educate Kenyans on the rights of the victims.
Mutiso said that the sensitized stakeholders who include youth, women leaders, People Living With Disability Representatives among others form part of the stakeholders who will help to spread message on the rights of the victims across the county.
