The Government has urged the contractor of Moi Stadium in Embu to fast-truck the renovation of the stadium.Speaking during a tour at the stadium Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo called on the contractor to work both day and night to ensure that the renovation of the stadium is completed in the next 45 days.
The renovation of the stadium is in preparation of the June 1 Madaraka Day Celebrations which will be held at the Moi Stadium Embu.
The PS said that the venue for Madaraka Day Celebration was changed from Njukiri ASK Showground to Moi Stadium due to reasons related to time and cost of constructing a new stadium at Njukiri.
The PS who is also the chairman of the National Celebrations Committee further said that the Government changed the June 1 Madaraka Celebrations theme from Affordable Healthcare to a focus on SMEs.
“We want to focus on improving the economy which is the biggest challenge,” said the PS.Omollo said it will be a golden opportunity for Embu County to look at how it can be able to spur the economy of the county.
Omollo was accompanied by Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs PS Jonathan Mueke, Ministry of Defense PS Patrick Mariru and State Department of Roads PS Eng. Joseph Mbugua.The PS added that the stadium is being renovated at an approximate budget of Sh300 Million.
Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire expressed her confidence that the contractor will be able to finish the stadium renovations on time.
The Governor said that many youths and residents of Embu County will benefit from the employment opportunities that will be created during the renovation of the stadium adding that 90 per cent of the workforce will come from Embu County.
Mbarire added that alongside the renovation of the stadium, Embu will benefit from the Government’s affordable housing programme that is set to be launched soon.She further added that the Government is in the process of constructing a modern market in Embu which its ground-breaking ceremony is set to happen before the June 1 Madaraka Day Celebrations.
Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji said that many of the youth in the County are already benefiting from the stadium renovation because they have been able to get employment.
