Makueni leaders have appealed to the National Government to create additional new administrative units in the County, to enhance service delivery to residents.
Speaking at Wote, during a public participation forum on creating new administrative units, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr, noted the units will bring closer services to residents.
“We are asking for this administrative units to bring government services closer to the residents, for example people of Kibwezi are travelling long distance to access their birth certificate and registration services,” noted Mutula during the forum that was attended by the Makueni County Commissioner(CC), William Kaimba, with stakeholders from the 30 wards in the County.
Among the proposed administrative units include operationalization of Kambu Sub-County curved from Kibwezi, Kavete division in Nzaui Sub-County. The full list of proposed sub counties, divisions, locations and sub locations, will be handed over to the County Commissioner on Monday.
Mutula reiterated that his Administration is working together with the National Government in implementing projects in the County.
Kaimba urged the public servants in the area, to work for all the people without any favor or discrimination.
“All public servants in the County should deliver services to the people without favor or discrimination,” said Kaimba.
He noted that a division should comprise two or three locations while a location should have at least two sub locations.
According to Kenya National Bureau of Statistics 2019 census, the County covers an area of 8,008.9 square kilometers, with a population of 987,653 people.
It has nine sub counties that are Makueni, Kilungu, Mukaa, Kibwezi, Kathonzweni, Makindu, Mbooni East, Mbooni West and Nzaui.
