A section of members of Parliament have pledged to work with the government to support devolved units of government to ensure smooth running of their activities and functions.
The leaders observed that a pivotal role is played by the county administration, and hence underscored the need for their support so that they are able to continue delivering services to the people.
Led by MPs Gitonga Mukunji (Manyatta Constituency), Japheth Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North), Rueben Kiborek (Mogotio), Wanjiku Muhia (Kipipiri) and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, they observed that the government was committed to bring down the cost of living and hence called on Kenyans to remain patient as the government puts things in order.
The MPs said that as they embarked on the budget making process, they would commit a considerable amount of money to county governments to enable them meet their needs.
They spoke in Ol-Kalou town of Nyandarua County, moments after both the National Assembly, The Senate and County Assemblies resumed their sittings after the long December holidays.
While noting that county governments were the best inventions the country had, Manyatta MP noted the need to do more on devolution and mostly on economic blocks.
This, he said, would provide markets for the various products by the counties, adding that there was a need to increase funding to the devolved units despite the myriad of challenges the country was facing.
Nyakundi noted that although the National Assembly was working on the supplementary budget, there was need for the national government and other investigating agencies to probe dubious transactions that were done by the previous regime shortly before the recent General elections.
He said a huge amount of money was withdrawn from the government and it was not clear how it was spent.
His sentiments were echoed by Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia who observed the need for leaders to work together for the interest of the citizens.
