Nyandarua County Governor Dr. Moses Kiarie Badilisha has handed over 100 Point of Sale (POS) machines to the county revenue collectors to assist in improving service delivery to the taxpayers.
Speaking at the county headquarters in Ol Kalou Town, Badilisha said that the machines will enhance real-time reporting on revenue collection countywide.
He added the machines will help in monitoring and supervising tax collection. This will help in making sure that no tax will be collected manually hence curbing corruption.
“The POS machines will help in increasing our revenue collection. We have already witnessed an increase in revenue collection from Sh24 million to Sh43 million within a short period of time since we started using the machines. I will not encourage the collection of revenue manually in all departments and units as this abets embezzlement,” Badilisha said.
He added that section 104 (d) of the Public Finance Management Act requires the county treasury to mobilize resources for funding the budgetary requirements of the county government and putting in place mechanisms to raise revenue and resources. He said that the automation of revenue collection is paramount.
“We have agreed to respect all our taxpayers by collecting tax in a peaceful manner. If the taxpayers are requesting to be allowed some time in the payment of tax we will be considerate by giving them more time to pay the tax. Our aim is to ensure that every citizen in Nyandarua is enjoying their tax payment through good health services, and improved roads among others as we promised during our campaign period,” Badilisha said.
The governor said they are aiming to increase Nyandarua county’s revenue by Sh260 million in 2023 to hit a target of Sh660 million. Nyandarua County collected Sh400 million in revenue in the financial year ending 2022.
