Kisii County Commissioner Tom Anjere has called upon parents to shun demonstrations and instead engage the management of learning institutions in discussing dismal performance.
Anjere noted that recent incidents of parents storming schools and barring school heads from accessing the institutions on account of poor results were unfortunate, saying they can channel their grievances to the relevant education officers for action.
“Invading the learning institutions and blocking the principals plus other teachers from executing their responsibilities will be viewed as a crime and the police must take action,” he warned.
The CC who was speaking during a familiarization tour of Marani Sub County, Kisii, encouraged the parents to attend meetings in schools whenever they are invited to discuss ways of improving the schools’ performance.
Anjere decried under-enrolment in some junior secondary schools and the increasing number of children loitering in markets and towns within Kisii despite the recent reopening of schools.
He pointed out that action will be taken against any parent who refuses to take their child to school, saying it is the responsibility of parents and other education stakeholders to ensure all children have access to learning.
The CC noted they are working with chiefs and assistant chiefs to achieve the 100 percent transition to secondary school for both Class Eight and Grade Six learners who sat for national examinations last year.
In addition, Anjere said the county has intensified the war against illicit brews and drug abuse and encouraged members of the public to utilize the suggestion boxes in government offices to report perpetrators of such crimes.
