The National Committee appointed to look into the path toward changing the terms and conditions of employment for police and prison service officers, Monday, engaged various stakeholders in Kericho County through a public participation forum held in Kericho Town.
The Task Force, engaged the Police Officers, the Prison Officers, Administration Police Officers, and the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), where the officers aired their views on the proposed reforms.
Speaking while officially opening the forum, the Kericho East Sub- County Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. Stephen Orinde, expressed his confidence in the Task Force, adding the implementation of the views will enhance the service delivery by the officers.
“We are confident that all views expressed in the public participation forum by members of the public, organized groups, and also National Police Service and the Kenya Prisons Service as well as the NGAO, will be considered and we hope soon there will be an improvement in their terms,” Said Mr. OrindeSome of the views expressed at the forum included challenges that the National Police Service and the Kenya Prisons Service faced in their day-to-day duties on the ground and issues touching on terms of service and welfare, mental health issues, remuneration, housing, insurance, and career progression among other issues.
The members of the Task Force, thereafter, toured the Police stations and the Prisons within Kericho County, for physical data collection on the facilities.
