Needy Students Gets Full Scholarship from A Murang’a Water Firm

Six needy students drawn from various wards within Murang’a have benefited from full scholarship, courtesy of a local water company.

The learners who cleared their 2022   Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Examinations, Monday, were awarded the scholarship by Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company (Muwasco), ready to join secondary schools which they were enrolled.

The Company will use Sh. 469, 060 annually, to educate the two girls and four boys from vulnerable families.

Muwasco’s Managing Director, Engineer, Daniel Ng’ang’a, said the beneficiaries were selected from areas which are served by the Company.

He said that serious vetting exercise was done to pick the most needy and bright students, to ensure they don’t miss secondary education.

The Company, Ng’ang’a added, started giving bursaries and scholarships to both to secondary and tertiary students five years ago, in a programme dubbed Muwasco Masomo scholarship.

“The management of Muwsco agreed to set aside Sh. 1 million annually for bursaries and scholarships for needy students from areas of our jurisdiction. The programme is important since it ensures students from vulnerable backgrounds get a chance to study,” explained Ng’ang’a.

The needy students are expected to join best performing Extra-county Secondary Schools in Murang’a.

Ng’ang’a challenged the learners to take advantage of the scholarship and perform well in their studies.

“I urge other water service providers to come up with a programme of sponsoring needy students from their areas of jurisdiction. Education does only benefit an individual but the community,” he averred.

The Company, Ng’ang’a added, will continue sponsoring two students who cleared their KCSE last year and attained grades, to enable them to join university.

He observed the move by the Company is to complement efforts by Murang’a County Government, to educate students from poor families.

Head Teacher of Muchungucha Primary School, Alice Njeru, lauded the Company for sponsoring two students from her school.

One of the students, she said, was sponsored from 2018 and he scored grade B+ in last year’s KCSE.

“This time I have another needy student who will be sponsored by Muwasco to study at Kirogo High school. The Company is doing a noble initiative in sponsoring vulnerable learners to get education,” she added.

Njeru called upon well-wishers to help needy students, to attain their education goals by sponsoring them to pursue secondary and tertiary education.
