Family seeks help to bury their kin as body held at KU hospital over 2.2M bill

A family in Mbiruri Runyenjes Embu County is living in pain and agony because the body of their kin is being held at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) morgue over unpaid hospital and morgue bill of Sh2.2 million.

The family is now seeking help from well-wishers to help them offset the bill in order to bury their kin whose body is held at KUTRRH morgue.

During a walk held by the family and well-wishers to help raise funds to offset the bill, Caroline Muthoni a well-wisher in Embu said that the family is having a mental torture after the body of their kin was held.

Muthoni called on Kenyans of goodwill to step in and help the family offset the bill so that they can bury their kin.

She also requested President Dr. William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to hear the cry of the family and come to their rescue. She added that the family cannot afford to raise the bill alone.

Muthoni said that Eric Mutugi the deceased was a brother to Purity Murugi and Doris Mumbi who are orphans.

Doris Mumbi, a sister to the deceased said that their brother Eric Mutugi was admitted at Kenyatta hospital on December 27 and was taken to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and died on January 15.

Mumbi said that the family has only been able to raise Sh.225, 000 from harambee and friends which they paid to the morgue but the body was not released for burial.

Mumbi expressed fears that the bill may keep on piling as the body continues to be withheld at KUTRRH morgue calling on Kenyans of good will to help them offset the bill so that they can bury their brother who was the first born in the family.

Enos Njeru, a well-wisher in Embu called on the County Government of Embu and the National Government to help the family offset the bill so that they can bury their kin adding that the family cannot raise the 2.2 million bill.

Kelvin Mwendani, a well-wisher and a youth in Embu said that the family has tried to reach various leaders in Embu County but it has all been fruitless.

“We have decided to have a 25 Kms marathon to raise funds because we have written letters to all our leaders in the county but none has come through to us,” he said.
