Education Ministry embarks on distribution of books

Education principal Secretary, Dr. Belio Kipsang on Wednesday monitored the opening of Junior Secondary School (JSS) and distribution of textbooks for grade 7 learners at Arap Moi Primary, Kajiado County.

He noted that over 1.2million learners who sat for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) 2022 exams will all transit to JSS, adding that KPSEA was used to monitor the learners’ progress and not placement into JSS.

Dr. Belio said teachers who will be deployed by Teachers Service Commission Kenya to teach in JSS are adequately skilled.

“I want to assure all Kenyans that JSS learners are in safe hands in all our institutions as we endeavor to have adequate number of teachers per school to deliver on the new curriculum,” said the PS.

He urged the schools not to discriminate the JSS learners based on lack of uniforms but instead give time for parents to purchase the uniforms for their children.

“We are saying the uniforms should not be expensive but of good quality for every learner in our JSS institutions to boost their morale,” he cautioned.

Present during the monitoring exercise were Kajiado County Commissioner, Mr. Felix Watakila, Kajiado County Director of Education, Mr. Pius Kosgei, Kajiado North Sub County Director of Education, Mr. Joseph Wairuri and among other Education stakeholders.
