Kakamega & ACCES Kenya to offer scholarships to the needy

Kakamega county government in partnership with The African Canadian Continuing Education Society (ACCES Kenya) is set to offer full scholarships for university education to needy students who performed well in KCSE.

Governor Fernandes Barasa said 100 students will benefit from the scholarships and asked Members of County Assembly(MCAs) to identify deserving students from their wards.

“That is the programme we are working on with ACCES Kenya for the next five years to ensure our students from Kakamega get quality education because we know we have that diversity on income,” he noted.

The Governor said, in February, ward administrators will also be involved in identifying the neediest students who scored grade C+ and above.

He said the programme is in addition to the county bursary fund of Sh. 2Million per ward meant to support students from vulnerable families.

“We are going to increase allocation of bursaries to Sh. 4Million per ward starting July,” he added.

ACCES Kenya executive Director Kevin Fadum on Monday paid a courtesy call to Masinde Muliro University Vice Chancellor Prof. Solom Shibairo and awarded 2 scholarships to two post graduate students at the institution.
