Homa Bay County has reported higher learner turnout in the ongoing grade 7 admissions being conducted countrywide.
Homa Bay Primary School head-teacher Joseph Ouma Obunga said that some parents from far places within the county had brought their children for admission to the school with the idea that there will be a provision of boarding facilities for learners who wish to be “boarders”.
Mr. Obunga however clarified that the school was only offering day program for the junior secondary learners.
“Parents from far areas should only bring their children to school when they have already made arrangements on where their children will stay as they commute to school every day,” said Mr. Obunga.
Speaking to KNA in his office, the head-teacher however informed that learners have reported in large numbers and were eagerly waiting to commence their junior secondary school life.
He affirmed that the school had not yet received textbooks for the junior secondary Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) learners, and hoped that they will soon be dispatched by the Ministry of Education.
“There are no textbooks as per now but we are hoping that the books will arrive anytime from today because the Education Cabinet Secretary had already launched the distribution of those books,” he said.
The head-teacher was optimistic that grade seven and eight students will not face any problem pertaining to their studies as teachers have already received adequate training for that from the time the CBC Program had commenced.
“The pupils are also expecting changes like on uniforms where the boys are going to put on trousers while pupils in lower classes wear shorts,’ added the head-teacher.
