Property of unknown value has been destroyed after a fire gutted down homes and business premises in Kapsowar Town early Sunday morning.
According to a resident and business owner, Ednah Kimaiyo, the fire broke out at around 2.00 am in the morning.
Marakwet West Sub County Police Commander Bosita Omukologolo said that the cause of the fire is yet to be established adding that no casualties have been reported.
He added that fire was unmanageable as most of the buildings were made of wood and iron sheets. Kenya Power disconnected electricity which prevented the fire from spreading further.
Residents have expressed the County Government’s preparedness for disaster as the County has no fire engine to help in case of fire outbreaks.
They cited incidents past like dormitories Moi Girls Kapsowar Secondary school and Holy Family Mission School where fire razed properties.
During the two-hour ordeal, members of the public milled around the burning houses as they were left to stare helplessly as the fire destroyed everything.
