Over 2,000 households in Wamunyu ward, Mwala Sub County are set to benefit from a borehole commissioned by National Assembly Lady Spouses Association of Kenya (NALSA-K) in partnership with Proudly Kenyan organization.
Faith Musyoka, wife to Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka said the borehole costing approximately Sh3 million will distribute clean water for domestic use to six nearby villages including Kithiani, Kinguutheni, Kikaso Kyeu, Miondoni, Mitiluni and Kyengai.
Speaking during the launch at Kikaso Kyeu Friday, Ms. Musyoka said the borehole will alleviate perennial water shortage in the area and reduce distances that residents walk in search of the commodity.
“Women and children walk long distances looking for water. The borehole will curb the problem,” she said.
The MP’s spouse decried climate change and asked residents to use the water to plant trees and conserve the environment.
“The scarcity of water in Ukambani has been exacerbated by climate change, we should heed the clarion call by the President to plant more trees,” she added.
Mary Kang’ata, wife to Murang’a Governor Irungu Kangata echoed the same sentiments on environmental conservation, saying that NALSA-K was committed to climate change action.
“We would like to hail the First Lady Racheal Ruto, who is also the NALSA-K patron for championing tree planting,” said the governor’s spouse.
On her part, Proudly Kenyan Organizing Secretary Tiffany Muema said they have been collaborating with NALSA-K on projects geared towards social and community empowerment.
“Some of the projects we have undertaken jointly include construction of classrooms, latrines water projects among others,” she added.
