The new Eastern Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich has promised to tackle the runaway insecurity in the counties of Marsabit, Isiolo and Meru.
Rotich who formerly was Marsabit County Commissioner, said having worked in the area, he was privy to the challenges facing the locality and will spare no effort in ensuring lasting peace was found.
He said he will employ a multi-agency approach entailing coordination and integration of various core security agencies to respond more effectively to threats including cattle rustling and highway banditry.
“We are going to engage widely with all stakeholders and also recommend for advancement of methods of addressing the insecurity menace in the areas,” the RC said.
Speaking on Monday during the handing over ceremony by his predecessor Evans Achoki at the regional offices in Embu Town, Rotich also promised to tackle head-on counterfeit and illicit liquor menace.
He said he will continue with the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) campaign initiated by his predecessor to rid the region of the menace to protect the lives of residents.
The Regional boss also promised to maintain the current growth trajectory by embracing team work to ensure government projects, running and pending, were realised to the expectations of wananchi.
“Our promise to the people of the Eastern Region is that we will give our best to have the government agenda achieved,” he said.
Among the key programmes he said will also continue uninterrupted include the ongoing tree planting drive, fertiliser subsidy and feeding programme for communities hard hit by the ongoing drought.
On the other hand, the outgoing RC Achoki hailed the support and cooperation he was accorded by leaders and other stakeholders that assisted in keeping peace and security in the region.
He said during his tour of service, a lot of investment and work was carried out in terms of peace and reconciliation meetings with warring communities in the insecurity prone areas and registered much progress.
“I call upon the residents of this region to accord the incoming RC the same cooperation they extended to me for the betterment of service delivery,” Achoki said.
