Plans are at an advanced stage to establish an agricultural Training centre in Kanamkemer, Lodwar to serve as a learning institution for farmers and County staff to improve crop production, with a focus on agriculture mechanization.
County Executive for Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries David Erukudi on Tuesday paid a visit to the proposed Naotin Agricultural Centre in Kanamkemer to inspect the construction progress at the centre.
Once completed, the centre will be used to bolster research and policy as well as serve as a unit for tractors repair and servicing.
Erukudi said that the County Government was focused on transforming the agriculture sector through research, technological innovation and strategic partnership with the private sector.
This, he said, would move the County from depending on relief food to being self-reliant.
The County Executive had visited the Lodwar Central Farmers Garage earlier to check the progress of ministry vehicles under maintenance.
Five tractors out of 13 have been successfully repaired and are ready for release, once the contractor is paid by the County Government.
Erukudi noted that the department was a service ministry and therefore an enabler towards achieving Governor Lomorukai’s agenda of food security without hesitation.
On his part, Deputy Director of Agriculture Victor Lochee said the release of tractors was critical as the long rains are expected in April.
