KCB bank distributes Sh1 million worth of relief food

The Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has distributed relief food to some 400 drought-stricken families in Mandera County worth one million shillings.

KCB Foundation Partnership Manager Ali Hussein while distributing the food said it will help during this period of drought in Mandera.

He added the food will help in assisting vulnerable people in the nine locations in Mandera East ravaged by drought.

Mr Ali said only poor families received the food.

Area Deputy county commissioner William Kipchirchir thanked the organizers and encouraged other non-state actors to help Mandera residents.

He pleaded with the beneficiaries not to sell what they have received but rather make it for consumption only.

The County Executive for social service Sumaya Bishar reiterated the county’s dire need and called on other partners to join in the drought-relief initiative.

According to a rapid assessment conducted by Kenya Food Security Steering Group, 500,000 people in the area have been left in dire need of emergency relief food and water.

Mandera is one of the poor counties under the government relief food program, with 48% of the county’s population in need of food support.
