Residents cannot get title deeds due lack of land registrar

Residents of three Sub Counties in Homa Bay have appealed to the government to immediately post a land registrar to the region.
The residents of Rachuonyo East, Rachuonyo North and Rachuonyo South Sub counties have not been able to get their land title deeds due to lack of a land registrar.
They said that the problem started after a serving land registrar was transferred, adding that three months have since elapsed without them getting the registrar’s services.
The three sub counties are served by one land registrar who is based at Kosele Township in Rachuonyo South Sub County.
Residents have raised concern that they have been spending a lot of money and time to walk into the offices but their efforts have not borne any fruit.
Speaking to KNA, Moses Odhiambo, a resident of Rachuonyo East Sub County explained how he had suffered.
“I have walked into the lands offices severally to secure a land title deed but I have not succeeded. Every day I go, the only information l get is that I cannot be served because the land registrar is not present,” said Odhiambo.
Samuel Otieno another resident complained that their relatives are languishing in remand because their title deeds that should have been used to release them on bond are stuck.
The problem has also affected the land boards in the three sub counties.
Contacted for comments, Rachuonyo East Deputy County Commissioner Jack Obuo who is also the chairman of the sub county land board said he has postponed his land board meetings indefinitely due to the absence of the area land registrar.
Obuo argued that the there are important documents which must be signed by the land registrar for a land board meeting to take place.
“The land registrar’s signature is a must for some of the crucial documents we use in land board meetings. I postponed the board meeting until we have a land registrar,” Obuo said.
