The famous Mangula area to be named Chemororoch `Recreational Facility’

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has thrown his weight behind the proposal by a section of elected leaders and residents to rename Mangula area to Chemororoch after  the completion of planned rehabilitation.

The area, a section of River Sosiani that was initially used as a hideout for a criminal gang in Eldoret town, will be rehabilitated and cleaned up by the devolved unit and other environmental stakeholders, before the proposed renaming.

For more than a decade, the notorious Mangula area witnessed rampant cases of muggings, murders and other criminal activities executed by criminals who were pretending to be street families and hiding on the shores of river Sosiani.

Recently, Mangula was in the headlines after a group of armed young people believed to be operating from the place caused mayhem attacking and stealing goods from traders and destroying vehicles.

Speaking during a tour of the area which has now been secured by the county government, Bii assured genuine traders and residents that his administration will ensure the river and surrounding environment is cleaned up and made safe for the public and also for tourism purposes.

The leaders who accompanied the governor pledged to support the river clean-up exercise and rehabilitation program to make it a landmark success.

They pointed out that the exercise will begin at Kipkorgot, Sugunanga all the way to Leseru in order to have a beautiful scenery and nature trails that can be used for cross country marathon along river Sosiani.

Also, in the Governor’s entourage included CECMs Martha Cheruto (Trade, Industrialization, Corporative and Tourism), Lucy Ng’endo (Youths Affairs, Sports, ICT and Innovation) Dr. Abraham Serem (Water and Environment) and the Chairman of Eldoret Municipality board Julius Kitur among others.
