Kirinyaga Central Technical and Vocational College in Kiangungu Area will admit its first students from January 2023.
The institution that was built and equipped through National Government Constituency Development Fund will offer various technical courses accredited by the Ministry of Education.
Kirinyaga Central Member of Parliament (MP) Gachoki Gitari who toured the institution said he has received briefs from the management of the institution on the needs before the admission and confirmed to fund the remaining parts to ensure the students got the best.
“We have come here to inspect this institution and see how fast we can do because it must open to the students by January,” he said.
“Some learning material and equipment are needed and as the leader I will ensure they are available before learning starts,” Gitari said.
He further promised to sponsor students doing short courses like painting and woodwork. The legislator also directed the contractor to complete the main gate and the fence that has stalled despite being fully paid for.
Karimi Kandie, who represented the principal, said the institution has so far received applications from 67 students before they formally advertised for the courses. She noted they are waiting for certification from TVET which is in the final stages.
“As of now we have received 67 applicants to study here before we advertise. The courses which are in high demand from applicants are plumbing and hairdressing,” she said.
The institution targets 300 students as the pioneers as Karimi noted the community has taken the institution positively. She urged those willing to study to take advantage of the new TVET to gain skills that will shape their future.
She lauded the area MP for the promise to ensure the institution gets trainers, Computers and desks.
“Our MP has assured us that we shall get enough trainers, computers and desks both for the trainers and students,” she added
The MP urged the youths to enroll in the polytechnic to acquire skills so that they can take part in upcoming national development projects like Sagana Industrial Park and construction of affordable housing which is done in all counties.
