Residents of Homa Bay County have been asked to utilize the already rolled out Hustler Fund to build the economy of the region.
Information, Communication and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo said that in doing so, Homa Bay will be a region of entrepreneurs capable of providing employment to others.
“I want to appeal to our people to take advantage of this great opportunity and take money from this fund so that they can be engaged in gainful employment by way of business and entrepreneurship,” he said.
The CS stated that after identifying the fundamental challenges of lack of financial services (affordable credit) to the citizenry, the Kenya Kwanza administration under the leadership of President William Ruto rolled out the Fund so that youth and women who are involved in itinerary trade are able to access cheap credit.
He spoke on Saturday at Rakwaro Chief’s Camp within Wang’chieng Ward in Karachuonyo constituency as he presided over another phase of relief food distribution to vulnerable households where a total of 1120 bags of both maize and beans in equal quantities were given to the beneficiaries.
Owalo reiterated that the national government has come up with programs that are geared towards the betterment of all citizens irrespective of their political affiliations.
“During the campaigns, we developed an economic blue print for the Nyanza region and we want to pursue the fundamental programs therein to a logical conclusion while working in the leadership of both the elected and non-elected,” said the CS.
The economic blue print encompasses issues in fisheries, sugarcane farming, cotton, rice in Ahero, mining, education, water and electricity.
In respect to these programs, the government is set to establish a number of factories in Homa Bay including a cotton ginnery. A training center for fishermen will also be setup in a project which the president has already signed and approved and will cost Sh 3 billion according to the CS.
“The government will revive the sugar companies that collapsed. Farmers are set to get seeds and fertilizers in the coming rainy season to enhance food production,” added Owalo.
The CS challenged the residents to support the government as it has shown that it is ready to deliver services to its people.
“Let us reciprocate this gesture and show that we are also ready and willing to work with this government. This administration will work with all the county governments and leaders at all levels to address the challenges that the common mwananchi is facing,” he assured.
He reiterated that the time for politics was over and that it is time to deliver their campaign pledges to Kenyans, adding that the Kenya Kwanza administration is only focused on development projects as its politics.
