Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has asked Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to identify and seal any loopholes that may allow corruption in the county.
The EACC will scrutinize the county operation procedures, policies and practices in key functional areas of Finance, Procurement and Human Resource Management as a means of combating corruption.
Mutula said the move will be the surest way to hold officers accountable for non-adherence to the law.
“We welcome the commission to do system audit for us so that we will not have any excuse for not adhering to the law, stern action will be taken on corrupt officers,” said Mutula on Monday during a consultative meeting with EACC team at Wote Hotel.
EACC Commissioner John Ogallo, said they will empower the county by establishing strategies and an appropriate action plan in fighting corruption. “Fighting corruption is a combined effort which requires the commission working together with the counties and other stakeholders,” said Ogallo.
“This consultative meeting provided a platform to discuss and agree on how the county government can move forward and develop an appropriate action plan for implementation,” said Ogallo.
Consequently, Ogallo urged the public officers to play their role effectively in combating corruption and unethical conduct in the county.
Makueni, in 2019 signed an agreement with the anti-graft body to monitor the county systems and point out any gaps for corruption.
