The Narok Stadium is set for major renovations ahead of the National Madaraka Day Celebrations.
The 5,000 seater stadium is currently being upgraded to accommodate 4,000 Very Important Persons (VIPs) dais and 20,000 people who were expected to attend the National Celebrations.
Five additional entrances are also being constructed around the stadium in addition to the current two.
Speaking during the grounds inspection on Friday, the National Celebrations Committee led by Defense Principal Secretary (PS), Saitoti Torome, Infrastructure PS, Julius Korir, Rift Valley Region Commissioner (RC), Chimwaga Mongo and Narok Governor, Samuel Tunai said the contractor on the ground was progressing well and it was expected the work would be completed by May 7.
The PS said a multi-agency team would remain on the ground to ensure the work is completed as scheduled.
“There will be a beehive of activities in the stadium, the air strip and County Commissioner’s residence where the presidential luncheon will be held,” said Torome.
The Narok Governor, Samuel Tunai described the celebrations as a big honour for Narok residents to host the occasion as the residents have in the past only watched such celebrations from their television screens.
“We have 11 county officials who have been co-opted in the National Celebrations committee. We have divided roles so that there are those roles the county government is performing and those the national government is handling to avoid any confusion,” said Tunai.
The governor called on the residents to take advantage of the day to showcase their rich culture by dressing in their traditional clothes.
“What an opportunity to show Kenya and the world that we have a unique culture. I call upon Narok residents to come in huge numbers dressed in their traditional attires so that we can make the day the best ever held in the country,” Tunai said.
The county boss asked the business community to take advantage of the day to make huge profits from selling quality goods to the many visitors flocking the county.
The Rift Valley Regional Commissioner assured that security had been boosted in the county and called on the residents to show up in large numbers to witness the big occasion.
“This is a big privilege for the Narok residents. Our expectation is that you will come in large numbers to witness such a big occasion that you have always seen on television. At the same time, the residents will have a rare opportunity of seeing their president whom most of them have never had a chance of seeing,” he said.
