Retired President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi is among 865, 969 Baringo county residents expected to be captured in the ongoing 45-day nationwide biometric registration popularly known as Huduma Namba.
The Baringo County Commissioner (CC), Henry Wafula said he was getting numerous calls from different people from the county and outside the county, demanding to know whether retired president Moi had registered for Huduma Namba or not.
“Some Kenyans are telling me that if Moi has not registered then we are not going to list ourselves for the Huduma Namba until we see him physically or on television registering,” he told Deputy County Commissioners, Assistant County Commissioners, Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs and Village elders during a sensitization meeting of the biometric registration at Koibatek and Mogotio sub-counties
Wafula who urged the administrators especially village elders, chiefs and their assistants to conduct an extensive community sensitization about the Huduma Namba registration, while expressing the need for use of the native’s dialects for the message to be understood by the Tugen, Pokot, Ilchamus, Nubians, Turkana, Luo and Kikuyu communities living in the vast county.
He also demystified people spreading propaganda against the exercise, saying they were non-patriots who are against development.
“We see some selfless individuals sabotaging this noble Huduma Namba registration by misleading members of the public that the nationwide biometric registration had satanic connections, others say that DNA samples were a requirement for the registration and so forth, all those are pure lies. Call me and inform me of people spreading propaganda aimed at sabotaging the important national exercise,” he said.
The CC also challenged the residents drawn from all the seven sub-counties to turn up in large numbers to register for Huduma Namba before the 45 day period elapses.
Wafula noted that the Huduma Namba registration is designed to ensure all Kenyans from six years and above are captured in the biometric registration exercise in which he has given junior administrators right from Sub-county to village level, some targets to meet for success of the programme.
“Now that all schools have closed and children are at home with their parents, make use of that opportunity to register the kids,” he told the county administrators during the one day meeting Friday.
The CC urged the administrators to conduct the Huduma Namba registration at social places like churches, weddings and even funerals as a way of ensuring that many people are reached.
Wafula who revealed that he is working with elders from insecurity prone areas of the county gave an assurance that the exercise will run smoothly in the affected Tiaty, Baringo South and Baringo North Sub-counties.
The local county administrator exuded confidence that the Huduma Registration exercise will succeed under the stewardship of Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i who has been tasked by the president to supervise government projects and programmes.
