Victory Farms Limited, based in Homa Bay County has donated fingerlings to small-scale fish farmers who have ponds in various parts of the county.
The Company’s Community Relations Officer, Mr. Dan Obado, said this was in an effort to economically empower small-scale farmers as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.
He said the organization was donating 250,000 fingerlings to 250 fish farmers from various parts of the Homa Bay County at a cost of Sh1.2 million.
The Officer also said their intention was to make sure all the fish farmers in the Luo Nyanza Region benefit from their organization, adding that they will extend hand to counties like Siaya, Kisumu, and Migori.
“We intend to donate 100,000 fingerlings to small-scale farmers in each and every County in the Western Region of Kenya and we have started with Homa Bay because this is where we are based,” Obado said.
Obado regretted that some farmers lost their fish recently and promised that their organization will provide 100,000 fingerlings to those affected.
He, however, urged the farmers to undergo education so that a similar incident would not occur again.
“The farmers who will get our fingerlings should make sure they get educated on how to prevent the death of fish,” Obado added.
Margret Akeyo who is one of the farmers who benefitted from the initiative expressed her gratitude to the Organization and urged them not to stop supporting the small-scale farmers because they are always in need.
Speaking during the event, Philip Otieno, who is the Suba South fisheries officer also took the initiative to urge the fish farmers to visit their offices in case of anything concerning their welfare.
