Hotel Owners asked to be Vigilant ahead of National Madaraka Celebrations

Hotel owners and Managers in Narok town have been asked to be vigilant in ensuring all visitors in their premises were registered and frisked in a bid to boost security in readiness for the Madaraka Day Celebrations that will be held in the town.

Narok County Commissioner George Natembeya said with the celebrations fast approaching, the county expects many local and international visitors to flock to the town.

He said every business person should be alert and report any suspicious person who could be a threat to security.

He was addressing members of the Narok Chamber of Commerce in a Narok Hotel where he asked them to reinforce the security of their buildings by electing perimeter walls and ensuring the hotel rooms were well secured.

“You many need to add more workers who will ensure you give quality services to our visitors. We want all the premises to remain clean and secure,” said the Commissioner.

Natembeya added that the County and National government were working hand in hand to boost the outlook of Narok town.

“We will improve on garbage collection, ensure all the drainages remain clean and renovate all roads around the town before that day,” he said.

On the tens of livestock that roam freely within the town, the county commissioner sounded a warning to the owners saying they risk being arrested and fined heavily if they do not remove their animals from town.

“Any livestock that will be found idling in town from today will be seized and the owners fined heavily. We do not want a situation where the livestock are sleeping on the streets or shop corridors as we have witnessed before,” said Natembeya.

The Narok stadium, he said is also in the process of being upgraded as toilets and VIP dais are being constructed.

“By the month of May, all the preparations will be complete. We ask everybody to be very supportive as the success of these celebrations will heavily depend on all of us,” he reiterated.

The commissioner has been holding a series of meeting with several stakeholders among them public health officials, water officials, non-governmental organizations and the private sector all in preparations of the big day where over 1000 VIPs are expected to attend.

Apart from Nairobi City where the National celebrations have been traditionally held, Narok County will be the fourth county to host the celebrations after Machakos, Meru and Kakamega counties.
