Bungoma Assembly gets new clerk

Charles Wanjala Wafula has been unanimously approved to take up the position of clerk of the County Assembly of Bungoma.

His name was presented for approval by the County Assembly Service Board (CASB).

The position was previously held by Mr. John Kennedy Mosongo from 2013 to 9th Feb 2022 when he proceeded on early retirement.

The motion to have the name of Wafula approved as per the report by CASB was moved by leader of majority Mr. Joseph Juma Nyongesa, who stated that the CASB considered all requirements in the advertisement to assess the suitability of the candidates.

Out of 100 applicants, only four eligible candidates were shortlisted for the position namely Charles Wanjala Wafula, Calistus Wekesa Waswa, Ibrahim Mutwiri Kirimi and Albert Wamalwa Namachanja.

They were then subjected to interviews on 3rd of November, 2022. Wafula emerged successful in the just concluded recruitment process conducted by County Assembly Service Board.

Mr. Wafula had served in acting capacity as County Assembly Clerk for 10 months. Ali Machani Mutoka seconded the proposal by leader of majority saying Wafula was equal to the task.

Nyongesa said the Board had conducted the recruitment process in a free, fair and transparent manner.

“The appointment of Charles is a great motivation and encouragement to members of staff that anybody can rise in leadership position. He has moved from an accountant to become a Clerk of the County Assembly,” said Nyongesa.

Members of County Assembly gave their commitment to support the newly appointed clerk.

Milly Masungo expressed confidence in the decision of the Board and in the able leadership of Mr. Wafula and urged him to be a symbol of unity for Members of County Assembly and the members of staff.
