Governor Natembeya calls for cancer screening

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has called on men and women who have attained the age of forty and above to undergo cancer screening to establish their status.

He expressed fears that the terminal ailment was prominent among those above the age bracket and urged the senior residents to go for prostate and breast cancer screening respectively early enough for those affected to treatment before it was too late.

Natembeya made the appeal during the burial of former MCA John Likovere who succumbed to prostate cancer, adding that there was need for early screening for easier management of the diseases.

“All of us should take an initiative for screening, especially those at forty and above. This is the only way we can to fight this cancer menace,” said Natembeya.

The Governor described Likovere as a hardworking and a great lobbyist who contributed a lot towards development when he was at the helm of leadership.

Health CS Susan Nakhumicha who was also in attendance along with area MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi announced the national government’s commitment to enhance proper policies in ensuring that cancer treatment was affordable and accessible to ordinary Kenyan patients

The Cabinet Secretary urged the locals to register with NHIF in large numbers, pointing out that this was one way of reducing the cost of medication if one fell sick.
