Over 1500 families in Loitoktok have benefited with relief food worth Sh. 1 million courtesy of Free Pentecostal Fellowship Churches of Kenya (FPFK).
The relief food targeting drought stricken families includes over 200 bags of maize, flour and beans.
While overseeing the distribution of the food to local residents in Loitoktok town, Samsom Kisemei, one of the pastors of FPFK said they received the relief food from sister churches in Sweden.
Pastor Kisemei further noted that many families have been adversely affected by the ongoing drought. He noted that many school going children have stopped attending school while their parents are unable to provide food for them.
Pastor Kisemei further observed that the churches have not been spared from drought severity noting that some churches have been closed after the congregation moved to other areas in search of food and pastures.
He said in the distribution they are targeting families in rural areas as well those in urban areas citing that all have been equally affected by the drought.
The cleric appealed to other well-wishers to come on board and support more families for the food they are distributing would not cover all the needy families.
The beneficiaries of the relief food appreciated the church for the food saying that the area experienced very little rains during last long rain season leading to lack of food and pasture for their livestock.
Jane Kishota, one of the beneficiaries appreciated the help adding that they have been severely affected by the drought.
Kishota further pointed out that the situation is worsened by lack of casual labour which usually help in getting money for family subsistence.
She appealed to the government and other well-wishers to come to their rescue and also enable retention of their children in schools.
